Town Council owned streetlights
The Town Council has approved the conversion of the streetlights it owns to modern, energy-efficient lamps (LED) at an estimated cost of £21,000. It is estimated that there will be annual Revenue saving in energy and maintenance cost of £5,000
The installation of the lamps is scheduled to take place during August and September.
The Council has also set aside £80,000 in reserve to enable the future replacement of those lights which have a concrete column to a steel column (with the new LED lamp being transferrable). The timescale of this will be dependent on the deterioration of the concrete columns most of which have been installed for more than 20 years.

LED stands for light-emitting diode, a modern, energy-efficient lighting technology.
LEDs produce the same light output with lower wattage, reducing energy consumption.
Advantages:
Lower electricity usage, reducing energy costs year.
Long lifespan (up to 100,000 hours), reducing maintenance costs
Minimal heat production
Reduced carbon emissions
Mercury-free, environmentally friendly
Reliable in extreme temperatures
Improved light quality
Instantaneous full output with no warm-up time
Benefits:
CO2 savings for the environment and financially
Around 60% reduced energy costs
